Standard Prestressed and Reinforced Concrete Pressure Pipe

Two types of prestressed concrete pipe are manufactured by Price Brothers Company: lined cylinder pipe and embedded cylinder pipe. Reinforced concrete steel cylinder pipe designed per the AWWA C300 Standard can also be supplied.

Lined cylinder pipe (LCP) has a concrete core cast inside a steel cylinder that serves as a watertight membrane. The cured concrete core is subsequently wire-wrapped and externally coated with a cement-rich mortar.

Embedded cylinder pipe (ECP) has a steel cylinder fully encased in a concrete core which is subsequently wire-wrapped and externally coated with a cement-rich mortar.

A steel cylinder concrete pressure pipe designed in accordance with the AWWA C300 standard which incorporates circumferential and longitudinal reinforcement can be supplied for direct jacking or other special installation requirements.

The term "standard pipe" refers to straight sections of concrete pressure pipe which are manufactured in nominal lengths of 20 feet or 16 feet as shown in the tables that follow. This section contains drawings and data detailing lined cylinder pipe and embedded cylinder pipe.

The standard pipe drawings in this section do not indicate the actual steel area provided by the prestressing wire since the size and spacing will vary according to the project's internal pressure and external load requirements. Wire areas for typical earth cover and internal pressure combinations are determined in the design phase of each project.

Standard pipe will be manufactured with the bell and spigot shown on the drawings, or where necessary, with various types of special joints on either or both ends. Details of special joints are presented in the "Joints" section.

Short Pipe
A short pipe is any pipe shorter than the standard nominal length. Short pipe sections are used to meet a critical point of intersection, valve, or outlet connection that cannot be accomplished by any other means. Short pipe laying lengths usually range from approximately two feet to two feet less than the nominal laying length. If other lengths are required, contact your Price Brothers representative
